Mixed Media Seacape No.1

Here's the other piece I'm working on at present. It's not mean't to hang the way I've photographed it, plus its not a very good photograph, due to lighting issues, so sorry about that.
Its a biggie 1200 x 600 and I got to use up some of my huge stash of freshwater pearls in it. Hey, there are uses for beads besides wearing them after all!!!

This is something I've been toying with in my head for a while, now the issue is what colours to paint it. I thought it would look good just done in white acrylic and then hung on a coloured feature wall.

But then I thought it might also look good done in sea and sand colours. The section to the left is salt imbedded into the Impasto. I'm a little worried about wetting the salt with paint... I expect that it will, 1) run or 2) partly dissolve, either way it may or may not leave an interesting design. I also used shells, starfish, string and sand dollars.

oh and I had planned to add some silver leaf in very small pieces to give the hint of sun sparkling on the water.

What do you think I ought to do?

oh bernadine this is right up my alley too!!

oh how i miss painting!!

i think go for the sea colours and sandy colours...you know when the sun is behind the clouds but it sets the water that nice mysterious greenish/blueish colour... thats the colour i am thinking would look very nice with this piece!

cant wait to see what it turns out like and what your final choice will be!!

It looks gorgeous so far - can't wait for the finished version! Have you played with interference mediums before? You can get a pearl one which if you water it down gives a really nice shimmering effect - the colours change depending on the angle you view it from. I used a gold one once to paint over a long flat green wall. It looked green as you entered the room, but changed to gold as you walked along it - so magical! Like being King Midas I guess :D

am thinking inks with a medium that delays the drying, Bernie. That looks just divine, right up my alley too. Love the textures. Some silver would be great, mix maybe some matt sandy colours in with some pearl shimmer as Inspira suggested.

I love that stuff, you make me want to get out my texture medium and get going. I used to make panels, with textured "stencilled" bits. But this is a step beyond, well a few actually. Love the start. Can't wait to see what you do with it.

Oh Wow, Bernadine, this is amazing. I would love to see your original ideas of sandy beige, silvery white, a hint of very soft silvery blue along the shore edge?? Hints of puffy clouds overhead??? I have always loved everything you do and I cannot wait to see what you decide and I hope you will get some pictures from different angles when done. God bless, BJ

I am bucking the trend however and love it the colour it is!!!can you give it a clear cote - mabey with touches of white and add the silver leaf for a bit of sparkle?
