Snapped this pic up my parents property at Glasshouse Mountains on the North Coast a couple of weekends back.
Around 4.00pm each afternoon, five or six Kookaburra's fly in and sit on top of the BBQ around the back of the house. It all started with just one or two of them, however word soon spread that free food was on offer.
I particularly like this pic as these three landed on the weathervane, where they looked like they were trying to decide which direction to head off in.

ooooh I love pics like this. They look like mine - well at least the ones that feed in my yard and carry on noisily. But what great noise. Yours is a fantastic photo.
I can just her them talk, Bernie. Hey Fred, Fred, I thought you said there was free tucker from this hooman. Yeah there she is, don't look too excited, okay who goes first. Cedric, I think it is your turn today.
I love birds, I have my own too. They are great fun to watch and they think they own me.
Beautiful aren't they, I think we are lucky to have the unique wildlife we have here in Australia....
It's funny how with all the rain we have had here in Brisbane how many different species of birds are returning...I have heard the Kookies early morning lately and there is also a family of Pale Headed Rosellas we haven't seen them or heard for years here, have had finches in garden too
What a great photo you have managed to capture of them! I used to hear them all the time when I was renting on acreage, mind you, not having previously been used to them, they gave me quite a start the first time I heard them - talk about "horror film laugh" - I actually miss not hearing them so much now.
Wonderful pic! I took a pic of a kookaburra that decided to sit on our fence, but unfortunately a rare event here. Must say that the birds I've seen here around the suburbs of Brissy are more colourful and interesting than where I lived in NZ (not that there aren't wonderful birds in NZ, they just didn't come to vist ME).
I wish I had a camera the day I saw some lovely little birds playing near my son's tennis court. I have no idea what they were but they were so cute.

It would be scary. Bet they don't explain that in the documents for travel to Australia.
We have red cardinals here in Indiana but I've only seen them from a distance until last week. I was upstairs in my sewing room and a pretty fellow perched outside on the wire. I told hubby I have a new boyfriend, lol. Now I take my camera upstairs with me every time I sew but he's been shy lately. I guess he doesnt want any rumors to start going around, lol.
What gorgeous creatures, great photo
Wow Bernadine, what a fantastic photo you have of these lovely birds. We feed year round too, but we don't have many exotic looking ones like you folks have. My favorites are the doves. They make me feel happy. I guess these make a fantastic Noise?? Love, BJ
Hey BJ. Just imagine a VERY loud cackle that sounds like koo-koo-koo-koo-ka-ka-ka-ka. Starts off slowly and speeds up. Pitch increases at about the middle. Once you have that down pat, get a few of your mates together and compete for air-time. Really does sound like a laugh - and we love it.
Indeed BJ.. get 5 of them together "laughing" as MalissaJ described and its a marvellous sound. Glad you like the pic. Its one of my fav's now.
Great Kookaburra piccie! They look really content. and to see that many at the same time. I haven't seen a Kookaburra for a long time. Plenty of cockatoos and magpies where I am.
Hugs Mel
