"Cookie"

I've really gotten into the Pet Portrait thing lately. Here's my latest a King Charles Cavalier Spaniel by the name of "Cookie". He belongs to my niece Samantha, but has a very strong attachment to her mother, my sister-in-law, Jennifer.
Cookie tends to get a bit put out when Remy appears on the scene, because Cookie is an older dog and dislikes having a young pup jumping all over him

A couple of weeks back at a family BBQ Cookie saw Remy appear and scampered off to sit with his back to us all between his mum's feet , a very funny sight. If Remy is doing some of his tricks, Cookie is always keen to join in so he can score a treat too.

This painting will make up part of Jennifer's Christmas gift and was painted from two original photographs shot by both Jennifer and Samantha.

PS.. Jan '09
The painting was very well received, Jen said she loved it.

Bernadine! Such a beautiful doggie portrait. I think not only is the piece wonderful, but that Cookie is such a cutie! You have done wonders!
I quite like your other doggie portrait too.

Thanks Ladies that's really nice of you to comment. Am very happy with how his eye's turned out. I think I'm getting better at injecting life and depth into the eyes of my subjects, the catch lights certainly help with that.

Halfway finished my white lipped tree frog and flower, been working on him nearly all day, lots of detail still to do though. Tired now, so am off to bed.

Hi Bernadine, You are an amazing artist. He is so real, I could reach in and give him a love pat and hug. Your niece is going to be over the moon with this. What a wonderful person you are. An heirloom for sure and she will have it for her enjoyment forever. God bless, I am sooooo glad you are feeling better. Can't wait to see your other paintings. Hugs and Love to you and family and Remy too, BJ

Thanks very kindly Bev I really appreciate it. Have just taken some photos of "Peppa" (border collie) who is boarding with us this weekend. Think I've managed to take a shot that does her justice, just got to find the right size canvas now to paint her.

Yesterday I found a fabulous photo of a green turtle swimming underwater, am really looking forward to having a go at painting that. I've a big white wall that I think it would look great hanging on. Never painted an underwater scene before so should be interesting. Also found a lovely shot of a kookaburra on a dying tree branch... and one of a butcher bird sitting on an old windmill both taken at my mum and dads place up at glasshouse mountains near the north coast....would love to paint that one for Dad....got so many subjects to have a go at now that I don't know where to start.
Aint that usually the way though, its usually a famine or a feast....LOL

HI Again B, I can't wait to see the other paintings. Our companions mean so much to us that having a portrait is a wonderful forever gift and not many artists can accomplish the real life like you have. One of my favorite species is the turtle, so that is going to be awesome too. Would love to see everything that you get done, so please don't get so rushed off your feet that you forget to send us pictures of each one. Sooooo happy to know you are well again and it is warm again too. Love to you, BJ
